Young Swiss international midfielder Fabian Rieder from Bern Young Boys has signed a contract with Stade Rennais until 2027, the club announced on Thursday. The 21-year-old played 122 matches with Young Boys, with which he notably won two Swiss championship titles (2021, 2023). The amount of the transfer, not specified by the clubs, is estimated at around 15 million euros.
Rieder played on Wednesday in the Champions League return leg against Maccabi Haifa (3-0 victory), taking part in Bern’s qualification for the group stage. “In Rennes, I will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with very good players, I will play in a very technically strong group. The club wants to play the Europa League to the fullest, it’s a very interesting challenge ”reacted in a press release from the Rennes club the Swiss international (4 selections, including matches against Brazil and Cameroon at the 2022 World Cup).
Already experienced despite his young age, Rieder is “one of the great hopes of Swiss football” for Rennes President Olivier Cloarec. He will be able to bring his European experience (24 matches) to the Breton club, 4th in Ligue 1 last year, and which is playing the C3 this season, the draw of which takes place on Friday.
