Toulouse Football Club formalized on Thursday the return in the form of loan for the 2023-24 season of Dutch midfielder Stijn Spierings, just three months after his departure for Lens. “The return of Stijn Spierings in the purple jersey is part of the common desire of TéFéCé and the Racing Club de Lens to offer playing time to the man who was one of the best recoverers in Europe last season, and who remained in four limited appearances in Ligue 1 this season,” writes the TFC on its official website.

Earlier in the day, Toulouse coach, Spaniard Carles Martinez Novell, said he was “very happy” with the return of the Dutch midfielder, present since Wednesday evening in the Pink City.

Left free in June after three years at TFC (111 matches, 15 goals and 13 assists), Spierings, 27, joined RC Lens to discover the Champions League. But he did not fit into the Sang et Or playing system (114 minutes, only 1 start) and was not included by the northern club on the list of 25 players sent to UEFA to compete in the C1 .

Spierings arrived at Toulouse-Blagnac airport on Wednesday evening, where he was warmly welcomed by around a hundred ultras. “Certain players are made to play for certain clubs. We saw his happiness when he returned. He feels at home here and we are very happy with his return,” said Carles Martinez Novell. “We have to do things in stages and we will see if he can play on Sunday in Marseille”, in Ligue 1, he added.

If the transfer window period is officially closed, the Professional Football League (LFP) authorizes movements between clubs in the form of loans.
