Rins, 27, is “recovering from his fibula and tibia injury” sustained in a fall in the Italian GP sprint at Mugello in early June. Due to his injury, the Catalan had missed the German and Dutch GPs, the last race contested before the summer break. He had not been replaced. For the resumption of MotoGP on the weekend of August 6 after five weeks of vacation, Rins will therefore give up his place on the Silverstone track to Iker Lecuona.
The 23-year-old Spaniard had already replaced for the Honda factory team another of his compatriots, Joan Mir, injured and withdrawn in the Netherlands. After eight rounds, reigning Italian champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) is 35 points ahead of Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac), currently 2nd in the championship.
The first Frenchman, Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac), is 5th, 85 behind Bagnaia. The 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo is 9th, 130 points behind the leader.
