Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac) will start in pole position for the sprint and the Qatar Grand Prix, the opening round of the MotoGP season, after setting the best time during qualifying on Saturday.

On the Lusail track, the reigning vice-world champion beat his compatriot Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) and the Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati), recovering the circuit lap record in the process.

The Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), outgoing double world champion, will start from the second row, in 5th position, behind the South African Brad Binder (KTM) but in front of the six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez (Ducati-Gresini ).

For his first qualifications in the elite, the young Pedro Acosta (GasGas-Tech3) took the 8th best time aboard his GasGas-Tech 3.

The French Johann Zarco, who spent this season at Honda-LCR, and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) will start in 13th and 16th position respectively. The start of the sprint will be given at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening (5:00 p.m. Paris time), that of the GP on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. local time.
