Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati-VR46) took pole position in the British Grand Prix on Saturday, the ninth round of the MotoGP season, on the sodden Silverstone track. Bezzecchi, who signed the third pole of his career in the premier class – the second in a row after his performance in the Netherlands at the end of June -, will start ahead of the Australian Jack Miller (KTM) and the Spaniard Alex Marquez (Ducati -Gresini) on the starting grid for the sprint race at 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday on that of the GP (2:00 p.m.).
Qualifying was contested in conditions made daunting by the rain that has been falling on the circuit since the beginning of the morning, causing numerous minor crashes. Bezzecchi, currently 3rd in the championship, notably fell at the end of the session: “I’m fine, but it was a big fall that I made there”, he wanted to reassure. The poleman had already set the reference time. The Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), current championship leader will start from the second row, in 4th position. Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez (Honda) will start 14th.
