Giannis Antetokounmpo wants more guarantees that the Milwaukee Bucks will remain an NBA title contender before signing his contract extension, he said in an interview Friday.
The 28-year-old Greece international, who led the Bucks to their first title in 50 years in 2021, could sign a contract extension next month. But he told The New York Times that he wanted the club to be more committed to maintaining a competitive squad before signing her.
“Next summer it would make more sense for both parties. And again, I don’t know,” Antetokounmpo told The New York Times.
“I won’t be the best version of myself if everyone isn’t on the same page, if everyone isn’t aiming for the title and willing to spend time away from their family for that. (…) And if I do not feel that, I will not sign, “added the double MVP.
“Winning a championship title is my priority. I don’t want to stay 20 years in the same team and not win another title,” explained the Greek.
First in the Eastern Conference with the best record in NBA history last season (58 wins – 24 losses), the Bucks lost in the first round of the play-off against Miami.
