The match: “We knew it would be a complicated match, because of Nice and their idea of the game. Throughout the match, they were fresher than us. There were also things that went well on our side, like defensive pressure or ball control. What was less was the fluidity. I would like to congratulate Nice, its coach and its players for their football.”
Defensive solidity: “Many chances conceded, like against Lyon? It’s football! The Niçois actually had more chances, transition situations and they were more effective, their victory is therefore completely logical. Despite the defeat, I am happier than after the match against Lyon (4-1 victory) because I saw a team whose players pushed until the last minute despite the difficulties of the match. As a coach, a defeat necessarily hurts. But I think we all need to progress, starting with me. On the other hand, I appreciated the state of mind of each of my players. It’s the best path to progression.”
Worrying… or not before the C1, Tuesday, and the reception of Dortmund: “If we talk about the three goals conceded, two were diverted by our defenders. That’s not an excuse. Nice played good football and deserved their victory. But I’m not worried. What I saw were supporters who, despite the score against us, supported the team for 96 minutes. Hat ! I think we will play better on Tuesday, we will be better, I am sure of it. It will be a match against a difficult opponent but I remain optimistic.
Support from fans: “I wasn’t there last season or the ones before. The supporters perceive certain things, an attitude in attack and defense, they are aware of what we are looking for. And what we want are titles. This is what we work for.”
The lack of creativity against Nice: “What does that come from? Nice’s defense, and we had positions, especially in the first half, which were not good. But it’s up to me, as a coach, to correct that.”
Mbappé-dependence: “Worried? No not at all. I like all the players who make up the offensive sector a lot. I think Kylian Mbappé will always score. It’s in his DNA. But my other players will score too, especially the offensive ones.
Nice high pressure: “How to get out of it? As always, playing football.”
