Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior suffered a right thigh muscle injury during the league match against Celta Vigo on Friday, the Madrid club announced on Monday.

This injury will prevent him from playing Brazil’s qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup, against Bolivia on September 9 and Peru four days later.

Vinicius underwent medical examinations which revealed “an injury to the right biceps femoris (hamstring),” Real Madrid said in a statement.

The Madrid club did not specify the duration of his unavailability but it could be between a month and a month and a half according to the Spanish press.

The Brazilian picked up a right thigh injury in the 1-0 win against Celta last Friday, La Liga Matchday 3.

He tried to continue playing with his thigh bandaged, but ended up leaving the pitch, being replaced by Joselu.

“He felt pain and we replaced him. We’ll see what he has in the next few hours, it’s thigh discomfort. It does not seem very serious, ”reassured his coach Carlo Ancelotti after the match.

The Italian technician had warned that Vinicius would not be available for next weekend’s game against Getafe, but hoped to recover his N.7 after the international window, which seems compromised.
