World No.1 Iga Swiatek, who retired with a thigh injury in the quarter-finals in Rome a week ago, trained on the Suzanne-Lenglen court at Roland-Garros on Wednesday, four days before the start of the Major on clay of which she is the defending champion.

In Rome, the 21-year-old Polish retired in the third set of her match against one of her main rivals on the circuit, Kazakh Elena Rybakina. She explained the next day on social networks to have injured her right thigh during the second set. She had specified having to observe “at least two days of rest”, adding nevertheless that she “reserved her flight for Paris” by “crossing her fingers”.

Swiatek surprisingly won his first Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros in the 2020 edition, postponed to the fall due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, she has become world No.1 and has three Grand Slam titles to date, having won Roland-Garros, again, and the US Open 2022.
