A message full of class, like the player he was. The stainless Frans Steyn, 36, is forced to put an end to his career because of a knee injury contracted at the beginning of the year. The South African rear (78 caps) with a phenomenal kicking game, sometimes center and opener, explains on Instagram how difficult “these last few months have been to agree to say goodbye to the sport to which [he has] devoted [his ] life.”

“This is not how I saw the trip ending. Every player wants to end his career in good conditions, continues Steyn. But I consider myself happy to have been able to play rugby for so long and incredibly grateful for the journey that I have been able to have.

The former Racingmen (2009-2012) and Montpellierain (2016-2020) had been playing for the Cheetahs for a few years, a South African franchise which participated last year and will participate again next season in the Challenge Cup. During his time in France, he notably scored a spectacular drop of more than 60m in the Top 14, with Racing against Clermont. He should be heading for a retraining in the middle: “I can’t wait to open a new chapter and have the opportunity to give back to this sport everything it has given me.”
