The Six Nations Committee announced on Wednesday the launch of a program to combat insulting and hateful comments on social networks. Artificial intelligence software, (Arwen IA), used in particular in the Premier League and Formula 1, makes it possible to detect and reduce abusive content on various social media. This technology “uses artificial intelligence to detect and remove spam, hateful comments or unwanted and harmful content. Using a combination of algorithms developed by Arwen and others available on the market, the system continuously scans content, in 29 languages, to immediately detect harmful content,” Six Nations Rugby said in a statement.
And to detail: “Each user of the technology can define personalized filters in order to ensure that the algorithms work with the greatest possible precision. Any content that meets the criteria and contradicts the Six Nations Rugby Community Guidelines is captured and flagged, enabling immediate action to be taken and protecting the online community.”
Sarah Beattie, Six Nations Rugby Marketing Director, continued: “Rugby is for everyone and we have a responsibility to make the sport as inclusive and accessible as possible. Addressing online abuse and harmful forms of content is an important step in achieving this. By using the AI technology developed by Arwen and offering it to our six Unions, the aim is to collectively protect our existing online community and welcome new members, with the certainty that rugby is taking steps to make the game open to all and operate with a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination.”
