Pablo Lemoine (Chile coach): “It was a great experience. After last week, it was really hard but the players worked hard and today we showed a good image of Chilean rugby. There are a lot of things we can rely on for the next cycle, to qualify. It was a wonderful month. The Rugby World Cup brought us a lot and allowed Chilean rugby to take a step forward. We wanted this competition to help us and it did. We also attracted new supporters and that means a lot to us. We did everything to make Chile shine. We have always said it, we wanted to encourage people to become attached to our project while helping Chile progress. We succeeded. Clearly, for a first experience, we can draw many positive elements. We get more positives than negatives from this competition.”
Martin Sigren (3rd row and captain): “We can smile and be proud of what we have done. We were not there to achieve a result strictly speaking, but to participate. What we wanted was to generate emotions and demonstrate resilience so that people recognized themselves in this team. We gave everything, we earned the right to leave with our heads held high. We improved during this competition. Looking ahead, there are a lot of positive factors to work on. We have a good staff and a young team which has a future ahead of it. There were a lot of Chileans in the stands whereas a few years ago, we didn’t even fill the stadium in Santiago. Like football or tennis before us, we proved that Chilean rugby was a source of pride for the people.”
