Uruguay coach Esteban Meneses announced the list of 23 players who will face the French XV at the Stade de Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve-d’Ascq this Thursday, including five players playing in France, Santiago Arata (Castres), who has not defended the colors of Uruguay since the November 2021 match against the United States, Nicolas Freitas and Andrés Vilaseca (Vannes), Manuel Leindekar (Bayonne) and Agustin Ormaechea (Nice).
11 of the Uruguayan starters were already at the 2019 World Cup, Mateo Sanguinetti, Guillermo Pujadas, Manuel Leindeker, Manuel Ardao, Santiago Civetta, Manuel Diana, Santiago Arata, Felipe Etcheverry, Nicolas Freitas, Andres Vilaseca and Tomas Inciarte, to which are added three substitutes.
Captain Andrés Vilaseca and Agustin Ormaechea are also preparing to become the first Uruguayans to play in three editions of the World Cup. They will also set a match record in the competition with this ninth appearance.
