The Bologna club announced Thursday the departure at the end of the season of its coach Thiago Motta, who did not renew his contract and who is presented by the transalpine press as the next coach of Juventus.

“I would have liked him to stay at Bologna, but I can only thank him and his team for these wonderful seasons and wish him the best for the future,” greeted Bologna FC president Joey Saputo, cited in a press release. The former Italian international, 41, is coming to the end of his contract with Bologna, his club since 2022. Under his leadership, Bologna, 3rd in Serie A before the last day of the championship, ahead of Juve, 4th, is now and already assured of participating in the Champions League next season for the first time in its history.

For several weeks, the Italian press has presented the former Paris SG player, who also has Brazilian nationality, as the future coach of Juve.

The most successful club in Italian football dismissed its coach since 2021 Massimiliano Allegri at the end of last week, two days after his victory in the 2024 Italian Cup marked by the bloody attacks of the Italian technician against the referees, a manager of Juve and the director of the sports daily “Tuttosport”. Juve, led by Paolo Monteiro, who replaced Allegri, and Bologna drew 3-3 on Monday at the end of the penultimate day of Serie A.

Before this meeting, Thiago Motta, who notably played as a player at Paris SG, Barcelona and Inter Milan, assured that he had not yet “decided anything” for his future. Bologna will travel to the Genoa field on Friday evening to conclude his season. Juve will host Monza on Saturday.
