Bologna took the lead in the race for the coveted 4th place in the Italian championship by winning at Atalanta 2 to 1 on Sunday during the 27th day.

The team coached by Thiago Motta scored a sixth consecutive victory thanks to goals from Joshua Zirkzee (57th) and Lewis Ferguson (61st) who responded to Ademola Lookman (28th).

Bologna is now firmly established in 4th place, the last qualifier for the next Champions League, with 51 points. Atalanta, which has only pocketed one point in its last three league matches, has fallen to 6th place (46 pts).

AS Roma, in full revival since being coached by Daniele De Rossi, is sandwiched between the two (5th) with 47 points after its demonstration (4-1) at Monza on Saturday.

If Bologna is on course to compete in the C1 for the first time since 1964-65, Roma and Atalanta have not lost all hope: Serie A could in fact inherit a fifth place in the premier event of European football thanks to its UEFA coefficient.

At the bottom of the table, Cagliari won 1-0 on the field of Empoli, and grabbed a place (18th), tied on points with Verona, 17th and first non-relegation, which took the best 1 to 0 on another poorly ranked, Sassuolo (19th).

During this match, Sassuolo’s Italian international Domenico Berardi, who was making his return after two months of absence, was injured. According to the first examinations carried out, he suffers from a ruptured Achilles tendon which would deprive him of Euro-2024 in Germany.
