The defending champion is already wavering: Naples conceded its first defeat of the season (2-1) on Saturday, on its ground, against Lazio which had however completely missed its start to the championship.

While it was not until the 16th day of the 2022-23 season for Napoli to bow, the team coached by Rudi Garcia fell on the 3rd day.

Naples however outrageously dominated the first period, but lacked realism, a quality shown by Lazio.

The Roman club, which had lost its first two matches of the season, took the advantage against the run of play in the 30th minute on a stroke of genius from Luis Alberto.

On an overflow from Felipe Anderson, the Spanish winger deceived the Napoli goalkeeper by taking the center of a blind heel, back to goal.

The reigning Italian champions reacted very quickly and equalized thanks to a low shot from Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski (32nd).

Back from the locker room, Napoli resumed their seat from the Roman goal, but it was again Lazio who returned to the lead, on a counter concluded by the Japanese Daichi Kamada, for his first goal in Serie A (52nd).

On the hour mark, to strengthen his midfield, Maurizio Sarri launched Matteo Guendouzi, who arrived this week from Olympique de Marseille.

The French international did more than keep the good result of his team and he even thought he had scored his first goal in the jersey of Lazio, before it was canceled by the VAR.

After this setback, its first at home since April 2023, Naples drops to 4th place (6 pts) and is three points behind AC Milan, which on Friday signed its third victory in as many matches on the ground of the AS Rome 2 to 1, with, to open the score, the fourth goal of the Frenchman Olivier Giroud.
