The maintenance objective assigned to Filippo Inzaghi looks more and more like a mission impossible: Salernitana lost 2 to 1 at home against Genoa and is now six points behind 17th place, synonymous with maintenance. During this 21st day of the Italian Championship, Salernitana conceded its 13th defeat, the third in a row, and remains stuck at twelve points.

Last since the 10th day, Salernitana had started the match perfectly by taking the advantage in the 2nd minute through Agustin Martegani. But Genoa quickly equalized through Mateo Retegui, silent for four months (13th), before knocking out the red lantern on the hour mark with a penalty from Albert Gudmundsson (58th).

Since taking charge of the team in October, the youngest of the Inzaghi brothers has a record of eight defeats, three draws and two victories, or nine points in thirteen matches.

Another poorly ranked, Empoli won 3-0 against Monza thanks to a hat-trick from their Polish midfielder Szymon Zurkowski. The Tuscan club remains 19th (16 pts), but is now four points ahead of the red lantern. The promoted Cagliari also remains concerned by the fight for maintenance after having paid the price for the awakening of Frosinone (3-1) which remained on five defeats in a row.

The Sardinian club fell to 17th place (18 pts), with only one point ahead of Verona (18th, 17 pts), beaten 2 to 1 on Saturday by AS Roma for Daniele De Rossi’s first at the head of the capital club.
