After five draws and seven defeats, finally a victory for Salernitana: the team coached by Filippo Inzaghi overthrew Lazio on Saturday to win 2-1 on the 13th day of the Italian Championship.

The Salerno club, in Campania, remains 20th and last in Serie A with eight points, but is breathing a little easier: before the other meetings of the weekend, it is only two points from 17th place, synonymous maintenance. Under the leadership of the eldest of the Inzaghi brothers, appointed at the beginning of October to replace the Portuguese Paulo Sousa, Salernitana has found hope, failing to still accumulate points (five in five matches).

Lazio took the lead on Saturday thanks to a penalty from Ciro Immobile (43rd), but the Salerno players went ahead in the second half thanks to Grigoris Kastanos (55th) and Antonio Candreva (66th). Still in contention to reach the round of 16 of the Champions League, Lazio, who will host Celtic Glasgow on Tuesday, conceded their fifth defeat in seven away matches in the league.

Maurizio Sarri’s team, 2023 Italian vice-champion, is 10th with 17 points, 14 lengths behind the leader, Inter who travels to Turin on Sunday to face Juve, their runner-up.
