Mike Maignan was sent off on Saturday at the very end of the match for a dangerous outing. The Milan substitutions having all been made, it was the French striker Olivier Giroud who put on the goalkeeper gloves in added time and took on the hero’s costume by making a two-step save which preserved Milan’s victory (1 -0) and its place as leader of Serie A.

According to Italian media, Maignan was facing a two-match suspension but Serie A announced on Tuesday that the French international goalkeeper would only miss one match.

He will therefore be absent when Juve receives the next day, October 22, a display that will also be missed by his compatriot, full-back Theo Hernandez, suspended for a match after receiving his fifth warning of the season.

Maignan will return to competition when his team travels to Naples at the end of the month. AC Milan put goalkeeper jerseys on sale on Sunday in the name of Olivier Giroud, bearing his number 9.
