The 185th edition of the “capital derby” will not be remembered with a dull draw (0-0) between Lazio and AS Roma as part of the 12th day of the Italian championship, Sunday. At the Olympic stadium in Rome, the Roman supporters, as is customary in this sometimes hateful rivalry between the two clubs, exchanged insults, but hardly had the opportunity to get enthusiastic.
It was Lazio, victorious in the last two derbies, who proved the most dangerous, but the clear recovery of Luis Alberto (25th) was repelled by the right post of Rui Patricio, beaten. The Portuguese goalkeeper also stopped a header from Alessio Romagnoli (28th) and a shot from Matias Vecino (73rd). The two Roman coaches Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho, accustomed to rants and refereeing disputes, got in tune with their teams, remaining almost wisely in their technical zone, without making any waves. After this third draw of the season, AS Roma is 7th (18 pts), eleven points behind Juventus, leader pending Inter’s match against Frosinone on Sunday evening. Lazio is 10th (17 pts).
