Imperial, the Austrian downhiller Stephanie Venier won her first super-G in the World Cup on Sunday, in Crans-Montana (Switzerland), where the Swiss Lara Gut-Berhami widened the gap a little further in the general classification, without shining .

Under a gray sky and soft snow, Stephanie Venier set the best time (1 minute 16 seconds 52/100th) with bib No. 7, ahead of two Italians: Federica Brignone (4/100th) and Marta Bassino (15/ 100th), winner of the downhill on Saturday.

The 2017 downhill world vice-champion thus won her third World Cup victory, the first in super-G, after two downhill successes in 2024 in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy) and in 2019 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ( Germany).

“My skiing was better than the previous days, but I still made a few mistakes. All in all I’m super happy, it wasn’t easy today but I managed to handle the pressure,” Venier, 30, told Eurosport.

In front of her audience and generally very comfortable in Crans-Montana, the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami had a mixed day. However, she widened the gap a little further in the general classification with her American rival Mikaela Shiffrin, who is nursing an injury to her left knee, thanks to a 6th place obtained without forcing herself.

But after a victory then a 3rd place gleaned during the two descents of Crans-Montana this week, the Ticino woman seemed slightly blunted during her passage. In the general classification, the 32-year-old skier is now 205 points ahead of Shiffrin.

Before Gut-Behrami’s skis now lie two new speed weekends, in Val di Fassa (two super-G) and Kvitfjell (one downhill and one super-G), before a technical stage in Are and the finals of Saalbach, from March 16.

The American is aiming to return to competition on March 9 and 10.

On the French side, Romaine Miradoli, very committed to her skis, took a good 4th place in Switzerland, a good omen after her bronze medal in super-G at the end of January in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

“I’m super happy with the race. Being very close to the best is somewhat the objective this year and the season is not over. There are still some great races to come,” rejoiced Miradoli. Laura Gauché, 2nd French, finished 10th.
