The Canadian from OL was in all the right places this Tuesday, during the 9-0 victory at Slavia Prague, in the Women’s Champions League. Very present in the development of the Fenottes game, the Rhone defender projected herself enormously forward to such an extent that, of the nine Lyon goals in the match, she was the only one to have scored a double (17′, 80 ‘) with Kadidiatou Diani.
The two Lyon midfielders put OL on a very good track, from the quarter of an hour into the game. Very impactful, the German Sara Däbritz first opened the scoring after just three minutes. of play before the Dutch Daniëlle van de Donk came to double the lead in the 14th minute of play to put the Fenottes into orbit.
Of Lyon’s nine goals in the match, five were scored with headers. The Fenottes were imperial in this area, especially on corners, facing a completely amorphous Prague defense.
FLOPS
The Lyonnaise in the least form of the evening. The Norwegian didn’t really seem strong and quite lonely on the front of the OL attack. Before converting the penalty she collected on the hour mark herself, the 2018 Ballon d’Or struggled to create chances. Clearly not the best match of the Scandinavian star in the Rhone jersey.
Despite the big difference in level between the two teams, the Slavia Prague players seemed resigned from the start of the match. In great difficulty on corners, the Czechs were no longer even going for a duel at the end of the match. For the second time, Prague conceded nine goals against OL. Karel Pitak’s team lost 9-1 to Fenottes in 2016, in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
With this 9-0 victory, Sonia Bompastor’s players equaled the largest victory in the history of the group stage of the women’s C1 since its introduction in 2021-22. Lyon did as well as Barça against Benfica last season. The Fenottes had ample capacity to score a tenth goal to take this record alone. But that’s a detail.
