The final round of the Open Water Swimming World Cup, scheduled for early December, is being moved from Israel to Funchal, Portugal, due to the ongoing conflict in Israel, World Aquatics, the international swimming federation, announced Thursday.

The event, initially scheduled for Eilat, on the shores of the Red Sea, on December 1st and 2nd, will finally take place in Funchal on December 2nd and 3rd.

On Saturday 2 the men’s and women’s 10 km will take place, and on Sunday 3 the mixed 3×1500 m relay. At the end of these races, World Aquatics will award the trophies to the winners of the 2023 World Cup.

Other sports are also affected by the situation in Israel. In football in particular, all international matches scheduled in Israel over the next two weeks have been postponed by UEFA. The Israel-Switzerland meeting, in qualifying for Euro 2024, scheduled for this Thursday, has been postponed to November 15, in a location that remains to be determined.
