The young Russian Mirra Andreeva, 194th player in the world, celebrated her 16th birthday on Saturday by beating the Polish Magda Linette (19th) 6-3, 6-3 in the third round of the Madrid Open.

Present at the invitational tournament, Andreeva continues her incredible week after beating Canadian Leylah Fernandez (38th), finalist at the US Open in 2021, then Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (14th).

Becoming the third 15-year-old player to win a match in a Masters-1000 on the WTA circuit, Andreeva will face world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16, who dominated Colombian Camila Osorio (115th) 6-4, 7 -5.
