Frenchman Benoît Paire, 112th player in the world, had a great performance on Monday by beating Briton Andy Murray, 49th player in the world and seeded N.5, in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier.

Paire, who had not played on the main circuit since Roland Garros last year, won in three sets 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

“I am very happy with my match today. It wasn’t easy, Andy was N.1,” declared the Avignon player after the match.

In the next round, Paire will face another Frenchman, the winner of the duel between Lucas Pouille and Harold Mayot.
