French No.1 Ugo Humbert has withdrawn from the Masters 1000 in Rome due to a left knee injury, the organizers announced this Thursday. 15th in the world, he was to enter the competition in the 2nd round, in the Roman tournament where he was seeded N.13. He is replaced in the main draw by the Chinese Juncheng Shang.
His withdrawal comes less than three weeks before Roland-Garros (May 26-June 9), no other details have been given on his injury. While his clay court season began with a quarter-final in Monte-Carlo, the 25-year-old left-hander was then eliminated in the 2nd round in Barcelona and the 3rd round in Madrid.
