The French Clara Burel, Constant Lestienne and Lucas Pouille qualified on Thursday for the second round of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells (California, United States), where Burel will meet Coco Gauff.

Burel (47th in the world), aged 22 like her opponent, dominated the Chinese Wang Xiyu (52nd) (4-6, 6-2, 6-4), who remained in a final at the WTA 250 in Austin. Wang beat Burel in the final of the US Open juniors in 2018.

The Frenchwoman, who reached the third round of the Australian Open in January, is offered the challenge of facing American world No.3 Coco Gauff in the second round on Saturday. Constant Lestienne also validated his ticket for the next round, after beating the American Denis Kudla (3-6, 6-2, 6-4), having resumed Thursday at midday a match interrupted by rain on Wednesday.

Lestienne (31) has a meeting with Canadian FĂ©lix Auger-Aliassime on Friday in the second round.

Like Lestienne, Lucas Pouille, from qualifying, resumed his match against the German Daniel Altmaier, dismissed in two sets (6-4, 6-3). He will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday.
