The new generation UTS tennis tournaments, invented by Patrick Mouratoglou, will resume in July in Los Angeles with the expected participation of Australian Nick Kyrgios and Frenchman Gaël Monfils, the coach announced on Tuesday to AFP.
“We want it to be madness in the good sense of the term, a bit like in the Davis Cup”, explained to AFP Patrick Mouratoglou announcing the participation, in addition to Kyrgios and Monfils – if they are physically in condition -, Americans Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe and Ben Shelton, as well as Chinese Yibing Wu, Argentinian Diego Schwartzman and Kazakh Alexander Bublik.
In front of the public, in a stadium with a capacity of 7,000 seats, the UTS will pit eight players against each other from July 21 to 23, according to its formula created in 2020 – with in particular great freedom of expression for the players during the game. – and intended to attract a young audience who does not watch tennis in its classic form.
Three other stages of the UTS circuit are still planned this year: in Europe (September 15-17), in Asia (December 1-3) and a “Grand Final” (December 8-10). The host cities have not yet been revealed.
