Australian Alex de Minaur, 18th player in the world, ended the fine course of Dane Holger Rune on grass in the semi-finals of the Queen’s ATP 500 tournament, 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), on Saturday.
Rune, 6th player in the world and who had just lined up his first three victories on grass, was picked up cold with a shutout break from his first engagement.
Ruthless on his serve, de Minaur finished the set by converting his second break point of the match, at 6-3, in 35 minutes.
The second set was more hung, Rune being able to regret not having converted the three break points he created for himself, in the first and in the 11th game.
But the Dane also saved three in the 8th game, offering himself a tie-break where he seemed to be the victim of a sore leg from 5-2 against him, to lose almost without playing the two points following.
Winner of the Eastbourne tournament on grass in 2021, de Minaur will face either the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (N.1) or the American Sebastian Korda in the final.
