The Australian Mark Philippoussis announced on Tuesday that he was ending his collaboration with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, 5th player in the world, just a few days before the start of the Roland-Garros tournament (May 28-June 11).

“Thank you for this opportunity to be part of your team,” the 46-year-old former Wimbledon and US Open finalist wrote on his Instagram account, without explaining his decision.

“It was a great ride and experience, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together in such a short time,” added the Australian of Greek descent.

Philippoussis joined Tsitsipas’ father Apostolos on the Greek’s coaching bench midway through last season and helped him reach the Australian Open final, which Tsitsipas lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in January. .

Tsitsipas, 24, reached the final of the Paris tournament in 2021. This season, for his preparation on clay, he remains on a final in Barcelona (beaten by Carlos Alcaraz), a semi-final in Rome and two quarter-finals in Madrid and Monte Carlo.
