The French Clara Burel (84th in the world) lost in the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Lausanne (Switzerland) on Sunday against the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, beaten 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Burel, 22 and fourth French player, failed to win her first title on the WTA circuit, two years after having failed in the final, already, on the clay courts of Lausanne.

Faced with Cocciaretto, 42nd in the world and seeded N.2, she ran after the score in the first set without managing to take the lead, letting her opponent slip away (7-5).

Burel was then more precise to pocket the second set (6-4) and take the lead in the third.

While she seemed to be approaching the first title of her career, having made the break at 3-2 in the final round, the young Frenchwoman stalled physically.

Her opponent then put in a final push to overturn the match and glean, after 2 hours and 45 minutes of play, a first tournament, also at 22 years old.
