Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia was eliminated Thursday in the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 in San Diego, soundly beaten by American Danielle Collins in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
Garcia, world No.10, had managed to beat another American, Sloane Stephens, the day before to reach the quarters, a few weeks after her elimination at the US Open.
But the Frenchwoman, whose last semi-final reached in a WTA tournament dates back to last March in Monterrey (Mexico), did not reach the milestone this time and lost in just over an hour (1h07) against to the former world No.7 Collins (now 43rd).
The American had already won in their two previous clashes, including last year in San Diego in the first round.
She will face the Czech Barbara Krejcikova (13th) in the semi-final.
The other semi-final, 100% American, will pit Sofia Kenin against Emma Navarro, who dismissed world No.9, the Greek Maria Sakkari, on Thursday.
