French No.1 Caroline Garcia made a controlled entry into the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid by dominating Chinese Xinyu Wang (42nd) 6-1, 6-4 in 76 minutes on Friday.

Garcia, 24th in the WTA rankings this week, remains in a quarter-final in Miami in March and a semi-final, her first in 2024, in Rouen last week, lost against the American Sloane Stephens, then 39th in the world.

In the third round, she will face either the Italian Jasmine Paolini (13th) or the Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (335th).
