After a great week on the side of the ATP 250 in Winston-Salem, resulting in two great victories, the tricolor Richard Gasquet stops in the quarter-finals after a big fight against the American Sebastian Korda (33rd).
One of the last survivors of the Musketeers, however, won the first set 6-4 and even had a match point in the decisive tie-break of the third set. Solid, the 57th in the world returned to the match by breaking in the last set that the world N.33 served for the game. Victory for Korda in 2h31, the American had to face the Czech Jiri Lehecka (35th) in the semi but the striker from Gasquet forfeited. The other semi-final will pit the Croatian Borna Coric (29th) against the Argentinian Sebastian Baez (42nd) who remains on a good series of eight consecutive victories.
Gasquet has not reached the last four of a major circuit tournament since his victory at the very beginning of the year in Auckland. The Biterrois will now travel to New York to play his 19th US Open. He will face the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (83rd) in the first round.
