The Frenchman Gaël Monfils (37 years old, 54th in the world), beaten in the round of 16 at Indian Wells by the Norwegian Casper Ruud (3-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4) summed up at a press conference : “I give him credit, he played well, served well in the third set, he didn’t give me an opportunity. I have to continue to be more aggressive. This tournament is a continuation of my start to the year, I played a lot this week and physically I’m fine! My last defeats are all ‘in fights’. I try to gain a little experience each time, even at my old age. The goal remains to raise my average level to try to win more matches. When I was injured (in 2022) I was 15th, I want, overall, to get back to where I was. But the road is long.”
