The Russian Veronika Kudermetova (world No. 19) won the WTA tournament in Tokyo on Sunday, beating the American Jessica Pegula (7-5, 6-1) in the final in one hour and 24 minutes.

“I’m really happy to have won my second title” on the WTA circuit (after Charleston 2021), said Kudermetova, who eliminated Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final and then had to fight three hours and 25 minutes in the semi-final to come defeated her compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets (7-6, 6-7, 6-3).
