The French Gaël Monfils, fallen to the 323rd place in the world, was eliminated in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 tournament in Washington, played on hard surface, Friday by the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

Interrupted the day before because of the rain, the meeting ended on Friday with the victory of Griekspoor, 37th in the world, intractable on his service during the third set.

Gaël Monfils, winner of the American Bjorn Fratangelo and the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, won two consecutive matches on the ATP circuit this week for the first time this season.

The 36-year-old Frenchman had so far only won one match, in the first round of Roland-Garros, against Argentinian Sebastian Baez, in five sets.

He immediately had to retire due to a left wrist injury.

For his part, Ugo Humbert, currently 36th in the ATP rankings and the last French player still in the running, will face the Bulgarian Igor Dimitrov on Friday for a place in the quarter-finals.
