Back at 33 after giving birth to two children, Caroline Wozniacki spoke about the level of players in the top 10, she who experienced entirely different top 10s when she arrived on the circuit. While recalling that the current champions have a very good level, she still stressed that none would be able to beat Serena Williams.
The former world number 1 was able to observe many players during her three-year break, and she assures that none would be capable of dethroning the American with 23 Grand Slam titles. “I was able to watch almost everyone play, even players I hadn’t seen before. I think it’s complicated to compare the old top 10 with the new one. Obviously some players who are now in this ranking were already playing when the old top 10 was there. she declared.
“I think you can’t compare anyone with Serena. In my opinion, when Serena was playing her best tennis, none of the current players would beat her, and I say that having played against almost everyone on the circuit,” underlined the Dane. For her, Serena Williams is unbeatable and is likely to remain so for some time to come. Despite everything, she recognizes that the level of the players today is still very good.
“That being said, I think we have very strong players, who perform at a very high level. I think we are pushing tennis in the right direction. In my opinion, there are more players playing at a very high level currently.(…) But once again, it is impossible to compare the incomparable. The old top 10 included the best players in history, it’s complicated to be compared to her,” she finally concluded.
Caroline Wozniacki is in the draw for the Australian Open which will begin on Sunday January 14 in the morning. She will be opposed to the Polish, Magda Linette, world number 20.
