Poland’s Iga Swiatek retains the lead in the WTA rankings released on Monday with a narrow lead over Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, while French No. 1 Caroline Garcia recovers fourth place in the world.
The 21-year-old Pole, defeated for the first time on clay by Sabalenka in the final on Saturday in Madrid, has only 1,744 points more on the 25-year-old Belarusian, against 2,084 last week.
If the American Jessica Pegula remains in third place in the world, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, forfeited by injury in Madrid, falls three ranks, to 7th place.
Caroline Garcia, 4th, the American Coco Gauff, 5th, and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, 6th, took the opportunity to each glean a position in the world hierarchy.
Crowned at Wimbledon last year, Rybakina thus won the best ranking of her career.
The Greek Maria Sakkari, beaten in the semi-final in Madrid by Sabalenka, gains a place in 8th place at the expense of the Russian Daria Kasatkina.
As for the two other French players present in the Top 100, Alizé Cornet is 64th after gaining seven places, while Océane Dodin remains in 99th place.
