The Polish Iga Swiatek, world No.1, won the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha for the third time in a row, beating Kazakh Elena Rybakina (N.4) 7-6 (10/8) 6-2 in the final on Saturday.
Swiatek is the first player to win three consecutive titles in the same tour event since Serena Williams and her hat-trick at the WTA 1000 in Miami between 2013 and 2015.
A player in good form at the start of the season, victorious in Brisbane and Abu Dhabi, Rybakina pushed Swiatek to a very tight decisive game (7-6, 10/8) in the first set which lasted almost 1h30.
The second set was much quieter for the Pole who quickly broke, before seizing her opponent’s serve again to conclude 6-2. Swiatek, 22, offers his first title in 2024 and the 18th of his career, a few weeks after his early elimination in the 3rd round of the Australian Open.
