Justine Henin received her award this Saturday, in London, during an evening which also honored all the 2022 world champions, including Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek. The “Philippe Chatrier Prize” is the highest award given by the International Tennis Federation. It is given each year to a personality, or an organization, “who has made a significant contribution to tennis, on the court and off the court”. Martina Navratilova, Stan Smith, Gabriela Sabatini, and the All England Lawn Tennis Club (which organizes the Wimbledon tournament) are among the former winners. Justine Henin has won seven Grand Slam tournaments, an Olympic gold medal, the Fed Cup (now Billie Jean King Cup). “Since the end of her illustrious career, she has created an academy and a foundation that provides sporting opportunities for sick and disabled children,” the ITF statement said. “It’s an important honor and receiving this award means a lot to me,” said the champion. I always gave the best of myself, throughout my career, and I achieved a lot of success. I will continue to work to give back to this sport, which I love, everything it has given me. Tennis has benefits for people’s physical and mental health. I am passionate about the fact that it provides the opportunity to play for people from all walks of life, both at professional and grassroots level.”
