Benoît Paire (112th in the world) signed his first victory on the main circuit since August 2022 against Andy Murray on Monday. The Avignon player, dominated on Wednesday in the 2nd round by the Mosellan Harold Mayot (144th) 6-1, 6-4, will remain there.
Against his thirteen-year-old senior, Mayot, a few days before his 22nd birthday (Sunday), was quick in the first set, won in 25 minutes. Even if the second was a little longer (44 min), Thierry Tulasne’s protégé was never put in danger. Three months after that of Metz at the beginning of November, he will play the second quarter-final of an ATP 250 of his career against Arthur Cazaux (83rd) or the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (30th), respectively eighth and sixteenth finalist at the Australian Open.
Besides Paire, two other French people were eliminated on Wednesday: Gaël Monfils (70th), victim in the 1st round of the young 21-year-old Italian Flavio Cobolli (76th), winner 6-7 (8/10), 6-3, 6-0 , and Alexandre Müller (71st), knocked out in the 2nd round by the American Michael Mmoh (133rd).
