The Georgian international winger or rear of Lyon (Top 14) Davit Niniashvili was operated on for a fracture in his left foot, we learned on Friday from medical sources, confirming information from the regional daily Le Progrès. His unavailability, initially estimated at six weeks and now rather understood at four months, will not allow him to play again this season in club.
Niniashvili, author of seven tries in the league with the LOU, should on the other hand be back in time to prepare for the World Cup in France (September 8 – October 28), which Georgia will play in Pool C, alongside the country of Wales, Australia, Fiji and Portugal.
The operation was performed at the Polyclinique de l’Atlantique, in Saint-Herblain near Nantes, by Dr. Ronny Lopes, a specialist in foot and ankle surgery. The 20-year-old was injured during the Challenge Cup round of 16 match, won by the Lyonnais (41-24) on April 1 in Paris against Stade Français.
