The back lines coach of the French stadium, Julien Arias, leaves his post after an “internal reorganization” following the arrival of Laurent Labit as sports director for the 2023-2024 season, the Parisian club announced on Thursday.
“Following the change of staff for the 2023-2024 season (…) Julien Arias, coach since November 2019, will not be maintained in his functions”, affirms in a press release the French Stadium, which finished the Top 14 by failing in the play-offs against Racing 92 (20-33).
“Despite the club’s desire to offer responsibilities for the Youth Pole and the Association, we have not been able to find an agreement” with Arias, who won two Shields of Brennus (2007 and 2015) in the jersey of the Soldiers roses, adds the club.
Former winger Julien Arias, 39, played 327 matches and scored 100 tries with Stade Français, where he spent 19 years as a player and then a coach, the statement recalls.
Argentinian Gonzalo Quesada, head coach of Stade Français since 2020, was appointed coach of the XV of Italy in mid-June after the World Cup-2023 (September 8 – October 28) in France.
His departure had been announced prematurely, in October 2022, when he was under contract until 2024. He will be replaced at the French stadium after the World Cup by two assistants from the Blues, Laurent Labit and Karim Ghezal.
