The start of the 14th stage of the Tour de France was marked on Saturday by a major collective fall after only five kilometers of racing, causing the abandonment of South African Louis Meintjes and the neutralization of the race.
In a bend located a few minutes after the start, several dozen riders went to the ground on a wet road, including the South African leader of Intermarché, who was 13th in the general classification.

Meintjes was evacuated by ambulance with a suspected broken collarbone. Spaniard Antonio Pedrero (Movistar) also dropped out.
The Frenchman Adrien Petit, Meintjes’ teammate, was able to get up with an imposing calf bandage. The management of the Tour neutralized the race, the time for the injured riders to be evacuated.
This 14th stage marks the entry into the Alps and the start of an orgy of passes to decide between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, the two big favorites for the final victory.
