Belgian right winger from Rennes Jérémy Doku (21) became Manchester City’s third summer signing on Thursday by signing with the English club until 2028, the European champions announced.

“It’s a big day for me, both personally and professionally. Manchester City are the best football team in the world, so joining them is something very special for me and my family,” Doku said in a club statement.

“Manchester City is pleased to confirm the signing of Jérémy Doku,” wrote the English club in a press release. “The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract (…) until the summer of 2028”.

The player bought in 2020 from Anderlecht for 26 million euros, according to the estimate of specialized media, joins the champions of England and winners of the last Champions League to digitally replace Riyad Mahrez, who left for Saudi Arabia. Before investing in attack, the Skyblues strengthened this summer with defender Josko Gvardiol and central midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

A time the most expensive rookie in the history of Rennes (before the arrival of Amine Gouiri in September 2022), Doku stood out for his qualities of percussion and dribbling in Ligue 1. He was however held back by many injuries (thigh, knee, calf).

In Manchester City, the Belgian international (14 caps, 2 goals) will have to face competition from Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden in particular, or even that of Cole Palmer, also used as a right winger by coach Pep Guardiola.
