Distance, allocation, number of participants: some figures on the 20th edition of the Ultra-trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) which begins Friday in Haute-Savoie
3 countries crossed: France, Italy, Switzerland. 18 towns to cover and 15 checkpoints to reach from Chamonix, including Saint-Gervais, Les Contamines, the Col du Grand Ferret, Champex and La Flégère. The objective is to go around Mont-Blanc in less than two days.
4: the record for victories in the men’s category, co-held by Frenchman François D’Haene (2012, 2014, 2016, 2021) and Spaniard Kilian Jornet (2008, 2009, 2011, 2022). Among the women, it is the Briton Lizzy Hawker who is the most successful with 5 victories between 2005 and 2012.
8 p.m.: the indicative time that the first arrivals should take. The current record was set by Kilian Jornet in 2022 with a time of 19:49:30.
23 years old: the age of the youngest competitor, Frenchman Tom Pollien. The oldest is also French, Christian Bourbon (73 years old).
46 hours and 30 minutes: the maximum time to complete to be considered a finisher.
118: the number of nationalities represented at the start. France is the majority, followed by Spain, the United States and Italy.
172.9 km: the total distance covered by the participants. The UTMB is one of the four most prestigious ultra trails on the planet, along with the Diagonale des Fous (Reunion) and the Western States and the Hardrock 100 (United States).
250: health personnel mobilized to supervise, monitor and rescue runners (150 rescuers, 65 nurses and 35 doctors)
2,300: the number of runners registered this year. During the first edition in 2003, there were 722 trailers on the starting line.
2,566 m: the highest point, at the limestone Pyramids, to be climbed after 50 km of running.
10,000: the amount in euros of the bonus paid for the first man and the first woman to cross the finish line.
