Gaël Monfils, who returns to competition after months of nursing injuries, and Caroline Garcia, outgoing semi-finalist lacking in confidence, will start the US Open (August 28-September 10) against players from the qualifications, according to the draw made on Thursday.
For his first participation, Alexandre Müller (85th in the world) will challenge Novak Djokovic (2nd). The Frenchman is the only one who can prevent the Serb from becoming world N.1 again at the end of the tournament: a single victory at Flushing Meadows would indeed be enough for Djoker to dislodge Alcaraz from the throne.
For Monfils, if successful in the first round, the next step will be much higher since the Parisian who will celebrate his 37th birthday on September 1 should find the Russian Andrey Rublev (8th).
For her part, Garcia (7th) could find her compatriot Diane Parry (73rd) in the second round.
For his 19th US Open, Richard Gasquet (57th) will first face the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (83rd) before possibly finding in the second round the N.1 tricolor Adrian Mannarino (23rd) who will be opposed in the first round to the Japanese Yosuke Watanuki (88th).
Constant Lestienne (103rd) could find Alexander Zverev, 2020 finalist, if he passes the first round against the German Daniel Altmaier (53rd).
Ugo Humbert (31st) will have a complicated first round against Italian slugger Matteo Berrettini (36th) with the prospect of facing Arthur Rinderknech (73rd) in the second round, provided that the latter gets rid of Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (116th) .
Luxury duel for Corentin Moutet (71st) who will face Andy Murray (37th). And there will be a Franco-French first round between Benjamin Bonzi (101st) and Quentin Halys (69th).
A total of 19 French people are directly involved in the main draw of the US Open (thirteen for men, six for women).
