Paula Badosa, still injured in the back, withdrew from the US Open which begins on Monday, the tournament announced on Saturday, thus deprived of a shock in the first round between the Spaniard and Venus Williams. The former world No.2 clarified on social networks that she was ending “an end to (her) season” after “months of struggling to return to competition”.

She has not played since retiring in the second round at Wimbledon in July due to back pain. She had already given up on Roland-Garros because of this back pain.

Now 46th in the world, Badosa announced on the sidelines of Roland-Garros that she suffered from a stress fracture in the spine since the Rome tournament in May. She will be replaced in the US Open draw by a player drafted from qualifying.
