Daniil Medvedev, who lost Sunday in the US Open final to Novak Djokovic 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, regretted not having taken his chance in the second set where he “dominated”. “It’s a shame that I didn’t win that second set because I was grabbing it by the throat, in a way I was dominating it. I should have done better,” commented the Russian. “I was a little stubborn in return. I probably should have changed my position (extremely far behind the baseline, editor’s note), but I thought it was going to work like that and I was going to get it to work. But when the set was lost, I told myself that I had been too stubborn and that I should have done differently,” he admitted.
“So yes, I definitely have regrets. I should have won that second set. But sometimes tennis is not easy. Obviously, I should have done a long line passing and not crossed, but I had two options and I chose the wrong one”, he developed. “Generally speaking, this second set is the one I played the best… and I lost it. So at the end of the day, it’s normal that the match turned out this way because in the first and third sets he was better than me and there’s not much to say. But if I had won the second, perhaps the rest of the match could have been different,” he concluded.
